  5. There is still a problem with probank, and the 1.1 "fix"
  6. turned out to be avery poor work-around for the real
  7. problem.   Here's the scoop on the REAL problem:

  9. There is a bug in the DOOR function of pcboard 12.1.  Fred
  10. Clark has confirmed this, and has even fixed it in his new
  11. "alpha" system.  We will be seeing the fix in a
  12. soon-available beta release of 12.2.

  14. Basically, pcboard "forgets" about time used in previous
  15. calls whenever a caller opens a door.  Since probank
  16. "deposits" time by registering the time as being used
  17. "earlier" in the day, that time is given back to the user.
  18. This problem will show up with EVERY DOOR that has ever been
  19. written.

  21. FRED HAS ASKED THAT WE KEEP A LOW PROFILE ON THIS PROBLEM,
  22. SINCE IT COULD CAUSE REAL TROUBLE IF SOME OF THE "KIDS" FIND
  23. OUT ABOUT IT AND START TO TAKE ADVANTAGE.  It's possible to
  24. tie up a system for 24 hours if you know what to do.

  26. My "work around" involved adjusting the login time backwards
  27. during a deposit (watch the status line... the first time
  28. will be reduced). Unfortunately, this causes bizarre entries
  29. in the caller log, and doesn't help at all if the caller
  30. calls in twice in a row...  sorry.

  35. This morning's version of probank will automatically perform a
  36. goodbye when a caller makes a deposit.  The goodbye function in
  37. probank (really prokit 2.52) will correctly account for time
  38. used in previous calls.  This is only a "work around", since the
  39. caller can still call back a third time and get back the time
  40. he used earlier in the day.
